Omi Japan Unveils a Specialized AI Agent Framework for Healthcare, Launches "MediDial" to Support Follow-Up Appointment Scheduling

As its first application built on the framework, Omi Japan is introducing MediDial, an AI Agent designed to streamline appointment rescheduling workflows in hospitals. The solution will be officially showcased at the International Modern Hospital Show 2026 in July 2026 through both a technical seminar and an exhibition booth.

Why Is It Difficult to Deploy AI Agents in Hospitals?

Although demand for AI adoption in healthcare continues to grow, real-world deployment in clinical settings remains challenging. Hospitals must address workforce shortages while simultaneously improving operational efficiency and maintaining high standards of patient care.

According to Omi Japan, the key challenges of deploying AI Agents in hospitals include:

  • Data security and privacy, requiring strict protection and governance of patient health information.
  • Explainability, ensuring that AI-generated decisions and recommendations can be clearly understood and justified in clinical practice.
  • Interoperability with existing Electronic Medical Record (EMR/EHR) systems and other hospital information systems.
  • Performance and responsiveness that meet the operational demands of real-world clinical environments.
  • Cost transparency, enabling healthcare organizations to evaluate return on investment and plan sustainable AI adoption.

An Integrated Development Platform That Accelerates Deployment

Rather than building a new solution from scratch for every project, Omi Japan's AI Agent Development Framework provides a standardized development platform with pre-built capabilities and integration components designed specifically for hospital workflows.

Healthcare environments are inherently complex, with numerous exceptions and branching clinical processes that often expose the limitations of traditional, design-first development approaches. The framework enables AI Agents to determine the appropriate execution flow dynamically, invoke the right functions based on each situation, and leverage built-in mechanisms for system integration, workflow orchestration, and operational safety.

As a result, real-world implementation projects have reduced development timelines from several months to just a few weeks, enabling hospitals to deploy AI solutions more quickly while maintaining reliability and governance.

MediDial – A Specialized AI Agent for Hospital Appointment Management

As the first application built on Omi Japan's new framework, MediDial is an AI Agent designed to manage hospital appointment scheduling and rescheduling through both chat and voice interfaces. By automating routine patient interactions, MediDial helps reduce the workload of front-desk, reception, and administrative staff while enhancing the overall patient experience.

Appointment scheduling and rescheduling were selected as the framework's initial use case because they are among the most frequent hospital workflows and offer significant opportunities to improve operational efficiency.

A key differentiator of MediDial is its three-tier, risk-based execution model, which tailors the level of automation to the complexity of each request rather than treating all requests equally:

  • Fully Automated (Low Risk): Routine appointments and standard follow-up visits are processed and confirmed automatically.
  • Human-in-the-Loop (Medium Risk): Conditional appointment changes are prepared by the AI Agent and submitted for staff review before confirmation.
  • Human Handover (High Risk): Complex cases, such as surgical scheduling, hospital admissions, or other high-risk scenarios, are transferred directly to the appropriate healthcare personnel.

At every level, healthcare professionals can intervene whenever necessary, ensuring that clinical oversight remains an integral part of the workflow rather than relying entirely on AI.

Debut at International Modern Hospital Show 2026

The AI Agent Development Framework and MediDial will be officially showcased at the International Modern Hospital Show 2026, taking place from July 8–10, 2026, at Tokyo Big Sight.

During the conference, Mr. Tran Quoc Dung, CEO of OmiGroup, will present "AI Agent Framework Architecture and Deployment for Healthcare Environments." His session will explore the key challenges of deploying AI Agents in healthcare, the framework's architecture, integration strategies with existing hospital systems, and practical implementation case studies.

Joining the session as a co-presenter, Mr. Shimokawa Tadahiro, Manager of IT Planning and Promotion at the Kyoto Health Association, will share firsthand experience with Omi Japan's solutions in clinical settings and discuss the potential of AI Agents to support hospital operations.
